Alternative to the Classic Grass Lawn

Almost all homes in the UK have at least one grass lawn – many have two; one at the front of the property and one at the rear. It is not just houses that are bordered by lawns but our apartment blocks, communal buildings and schools are usually surrounded by grass lawns.

It is important to maintain a good looking lawn by regular maintenance as the appearance of our gardens has a major impact as to how our family, friends, neighbours and other visitors relate to us. (“Oh – they are the losers with the overgrown garden!!” or “we have lovely neighbours with a wonderfully maintained garden”!)

Lawn maintenance can be expensive and time consuming which is why the artificial lawn has picked up in popularity over the past few years.

Until relatively recently if you didn’t have the time or money to maintain a good looking lawn your only real alternative was to use concrete, bricks or decking to cover your garden – all of these options will not give you that lush green appearance of the garden lawn. There was another option of using artificial turf but in the past this gave the appearance of a shabby green carpet outside your house!

All of this has now changed. Where ever you live in the UK there are plenty of artificial grass installers such as if you live in North London you could use ‘Lawrence Lawns to install your artificial grass. Due to advances in technology artificial lawns are now so real and life like looking that it is difficult to tell the difference between a well manicured real grass lawn and a modern artificial grass lawn. In fact many people will say that a modern artificial grass lawn looks better than a real grass lawn, and added to this the fact that it requires minimal maintenance makes installing artificial grass  a no-brainer for many a busy home owner.

Why not combine artificial with the real thing?

Now I don’t mean installing the highly sophisticated combination lawns used by top tier football clubs! If you still want some real lawn – after all who doesn’t love the smell of freshly cut grass? You can install artificial grass over the bulk of your garden and leave a small area or border of real grass. Using this system you avoid the hassle of maintaining  large real grass lawn.

If you do go for a combination though it is important to maintain your real grass so that it doesn’t look like an unsightly mess next to your unblemished artificial lawn. You will have a lot less real grass to look after so regular mowing, weeding and watering shouldn’t be too much of a chore. You may even have time to rotivate and sand your lawn in the autumn and then reseed it in the spring.

Whatever you choose, whether to stick with a full real lawn, to convert to all artificial grass or to use a combination, you now can make your garden look beautiful with any of these options.
